Inverness Graded Swim Meet Saturday 30th March
Good luck to all the Swimmers competing on 30th March at the Inverness Graded Meet.  For some this will be their first Swim Meet outside of the Club, we hope you have a great time and know the more experienced swimmers will be there to support and encourage.

Do remember to take an extra towel, t shirt and shorts for poolside and poolside shoes.  Snacks can be good to give energy (if you want ideas please just ask) and a water bottle.  We have swim caps for sale at £5 and these are great not just to help you swim faster but also for your friends to be able to see you in the water!  Caps can be purchased poolside.
Timekeepers & Officials
When the swim club enter external meets, we have to provide qualified timekeepers and officials.  To become a qualified timekeeper, you take an online zoom course and then a practical at the pool.  It isn’t too arduous and just goes over how swim meets work, a little bit about competition swimming and the duties of a timekeeper.  As a Club we would expect that each swimmer has a person who has been through the course and can therefore take their turn in officiating at a meet.  The club cover the cost of the course.  Please email gscmeets@gmail.com expressing interest of taking the course, we can then look at a date to suit the majority.  We need 12 people to run a course.

There is also a need for anyone who is a qualified timekeeper to start the process of qualifying as Judge.  At present we only have 1 qualified Judge in the club (and they don’t have children swimming in the club now).  As the process to become qualified takes some time it really is imperative if the Club want to continue entering meets, especially higher level meets for the older swimmers, that people come forward to take this on.  If you want to know more about the process please do speak to Kathryn or email gscmeets@gmail.com  In the future it would be awful if we got to the situation where swimmers cannot enter meets because we don’t have the officials.
Sports Science
For the senior school age swimmers there are now two teen gym sessions.  It has been GREAT to see that it’s so popular and that it is really benefitting the swimmers.  For more information, please speak to the team at the sports centre.
Volunteering & courses for swimmers
For a while there has been an informal pathway that senior swimmers have followed with the club.

A number of kids are doing Duke of Edinburgh award have used swimming for skills or fitness or volunteering (or all of them).  The coaches are always happy to support this.  Just drop Cath and email – cath.swim@outlook.com

Over the years some of the swimmers have shown an interest in helping with the learn to swim scheme (at Craig Maclean or with Cath & Kathryn).  Again, do come and speak with us about this.

Kerrie Dickson (active schools) supports the senior swimmers through voluntary awards.

For the first year in 2023 we ran an aquatic helper course (qualification by Swimming Teacher Association) it is our intention to run this each summer holiday during the summer camp.

Once seniors turn 16 the club will support them through a swim teacher qualification (Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification).  Often swimmers choose to do the NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) with Craig Maclean at this time too.
New swimmers starting
A warm welcome to our new swimmers starting on Tues with the club, Edie, Kipeo, Martha, Lilian, Lexi, Elizabeth, Fern, Brody, Alexis, Madaline, Rosa.
Volunteering
As there are now 58 swimmers in the swim club, we are looking for additional support from parents.  If you have a few minutes or a couple of hours a week to volunteer, then please contact Cath to find out how you can help support the swim club.
Look forward to seeing you all for another busy term and if you need to get in contact with the coaching team, please email cath.swim@outlook.com.
See you all poolside 🌊
