Welcome back to all swimmers.
It’s great to see everyone settling back into regular training.
We had a busy time over the summer holidays too!
- A fabulous club day out to Loch Inch although a bit chilly! But over 20 kids and a couple of adults had great fun launching into the loch.
- Summer camp ran the last week of the holidays with 40+ kids on the camp aged 7-16. Thanks to HLH (Craig Maclean) for the great land training sessions held every morning and also a huge thank you to Freddie & Kathryn for giving of their skills & time.
- Also running that week was a SSTQ (Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification) swim course and a STA (Swimming Teacher Qualification). Well done to club members Ellie, Duncan, Gregor and Adam who now have completed the course and passed.
- Swim times from training on Tues 5th September. The kids all swam 80m (4 lengths) 10x. The idea behind this is to get faster than last time the swim was done and then go faster each 80m. Some really great results. Well done everyone!
And congratulations to Ellie on receiving the Saltire Summit Award for volunteering this summer.

Go Swim event on Saturday 16th September
The swim club provided volunteers at the Go Swim event where we were marshalling for the runners at the Aquathon (swimming and running) and assisting the swimmers and runners at the bag drop area.
The volunteers were up at the Loch Morlich beach at 8am and finished off at 12:30.
Feri Collins, Isla Collins, Harris Burke, Gregor Bateman and Bjørn Flew were the ones helping through the rather grey and on-off drizzly morning and received good feedback!
We also had Holly Blacoe and Anna-Lena Artus taking part at the Aquathon – well done with a first and second in their respective categories!
The club will receive a donation for the volunteering, and we were asked if we would like to assist at their events in the future, too.

17th September Club Trip to the Aquadome
Well done to the swimmers.
Swimmers who have been club members for over a year swam some really great pb’s (personal bests). Those new to the club overcame nerves and swam really well too.
Thank you to all the parents, over 23 parents helping out and making the event work! It’s great to be past COVID restrictions and for parents to be able to watch/help/support the club. The pool hire costs were covered by those who have worked hard to raise funds (by grants) – thank you to committee members for this.
See attached for details on timings. As you may notice, there were some disqualifications – these are generally due to incorrect swim strokes and turnings. The club follows competition rules, as they will be the same applied at bigger meets. We are working on getting these corrected and the swimmers should not be discouraged by this.
And finally
SAVE THE DATE!
Sunday 29 October – Swim Club trip to Stirling and Edinburgh for a 50 metre pool experience and activities! More info to follow.
COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED!
Do you have a couple of hours to spare in a month? Would you like to join the Grantown Swim Club Committee and help with ideas, activities and decisions?
We’ll be having our AGM in October 2023. Some of our committee members will be stepping down after making great contributions to the running of the club. At our upcoming AGM we would hope to add new committee members. Could you be one? If you are at all interested, would like more info or are ready to volunteer, please contact our secretary Claire Anne at mcfaddencam@gmail.com. Many thanks.
HOLIDAYS!
Just a reminder that there is no swim club during the school October break. Sessions resume Tuesday 24th October until last session in 2023 on Thursday 14th December.
If you need to get in contact with the coaching team, please email cath.swim@outlook.com.
See you poolside 🏊
